The Long Way Home
Jack believed he and Hawk had killed two FBI agents mistakenly, and felt it best to leave Salem and Jennifer for awhile in order to avoid being arrested. He had had a dream and in it, Jennifer was much better off without him, so he opted to leave. He had already been missing for several days, while Jennifer was sick with worry. Before he left Salem, he and Jennifer separately remembered their times together. Flashbacks were played to this song. Afterwards, Jack promised that he would be back to get Jennifer back one day.
Winners, losers, and small time miss-users
Do what they must on their own.
Lovers, dreamers, and beautiful schemers
All take the long way home.
Some have their reasons, some lose their way
They all want so much to succeed
How do you tell them apart?
The best of them lead with their heart.
I met her in summer, we went to the river,
The water was never too cold.
Always together through all kinds of weather,
We took the long way home.
She was the best, I ever knew,
Somehow she drifted away.
Now that I'm older, the night's seem much colder,
And I spend too much time alone.
But sometimes in summer,
I get thinking of her
And I'll take the long way home.
I'll still take the long way home.
