Tidbit from Lisa Trusel in SOW...
"Melissa almost married Jack in 1988. 'A lot of people don't remember that,' notes Trusel. The two share a short, terse encounter this time around. 'It's the first time they (Jack and Trusel's Melissa) have seen each other [since the wedding],' says Trusel, who enjoyed working again with the Salem gang. 'The only thing that was weird was seeing Josh Talyor as Roman. He's Chris Kositchek!'

2/15/02 - Info from Matt
From Soap Opera News and Rumors Central:
"Some exciting stuff coming from the interview, which
JUST finished on 'Northwest Afternoon' between Cindi
Rhinehart and Matthew Ashford.
He said to look for many characters to head to Las
Vagas. He and Greta will initially be going down, and
Jennifer and Brandon as well as others will be going
down as well. He said some BIG stuff will be happening
down there. He said Las Vegas stuff will be airing from
April right through May. He said that
a MAJOR secret about Oliver Wentworth is going to be
revealed, and Jennifer will be trying to "OUT" Jack by
seducing him, however will the "pretend" seduction turn
on both of their real feelings?? Also as you guys know
Greta has an upcoming romance!!
He said that a huge story is coming up for them in May
Sweeps and its all going to be exciting and very
interesting."
~ Also, SOW is reporting that Julianne Morris (Greta) has been let go. She will probably leave as soon as this storyline is over in May, so the gay farce might be what prompts her to leave. There's no telling.
~~~~~~~~~~
2/15/02 - Brandon out of J&J's story?
In TV Guide, Matt Cedeno (Brandon) said he was planning on leaving until they offered him a new (well, it's not really new) storyline that he was interested in:
Cedeno would love for Days to explore his possible paternal ties to Abe Carver and his romantic pull towards Abe's wife, Lexie. "My curiosity is still piqued with those connections," he exclaims. "If it involves both, that would be perfect."
So this new storyline has nothing to do with Jack & Jennifer, therefore, he will probably be exiting their storyline soon, maybe after the Las Vegas trip (see above).
~~~~~~~~~~
2/15/02 - Matt's not an Emmy contender
According to this article in NY Daily News, Matthew didn't submit his name for a nomination...
The Daytime Emmy ballots were mailed out this week. Powerhouses including Anthony Geary [Luke, "General Hospital"] , Robert S. Woods [Bo, "One Life to Live"] , Lynn Herring [Lucy, "Port Charles"] , Thorsten Kaye [Ian, "PC"] , Matthew Ashford [Jack, "Days of Our Lives"] and Deidre Hall [Marlena, "Days"] didn't put their names in competition, but several "Young & Restless" bit players did...
Supposedly there is a chance that other actors could still nominate him. Nonetheless, there's no word on Missy yet, so she could be up for the bridge scenes from last May. There's still a chance.

2/12/02 - Incredible Chemistry: Soap City's Top 10 Favorite Valentines
Jack and Jennifer are included in Soap City's top 10 list of couples with incredible chemistry. Some of the details in the write-up are wrong, but it was a nice gesture:

Jack & Jennifer, Days of our Lives
Jack proposed while he and Jennifer were shipwrecked (after the cruise boat of Deception blew up) -- and gosh, that was only the beginning. They wed in Salem, honeymooned in Hollywood, bickered in Africa, broke up in Ireland and now they're on the verge of reconnecting. She's willful; he's graceless -- but love just might find a way (even though he sometimes pretends to be gay).
To view in context and see the rest of the list, go here.

2/12/02 - Ken Corday & Matt interview at Turtle Run
Ken Corday recently did an interview with Turtle Run,
and these are the things he said relevant to J&J (Ken's italicized, my comments are the ones in bold):
"There will be much more romance, especially for the couples that we want to see be romantic." I'm assuming J&J are one of those couples.
"I don't believe in super couples. I think that they are a trap. When you have a cast of 25 equal actors and if you single out two, four, or six as super couples, the second they walk on the set, everyone else might as well drift off because here's John and Marlena, or Bo and Hope, or Jack and Jennifer, or whoever. That's why it's good to keep everyone guessing who's going to end up with whom." I think he has no clue what he's talking about, but whatever. ;)
"I think if you look at the show from the wild party that Lexie had right before Christmas, through the Christmas show, the day after Christmas with Bo and Hope and their retrospective, and moving forward into January, you are seeing what I consider to be a very well-balanced show. You are seeing John and Marlena and Bo and Hope and Jack and Jennifer, twice as much as you are seeing any of the kids' stories. That balance has been re-achieved in the show." First of all, Lexie's party was boring, not wild. We've seen more of the adults, but their stories are still no good. It's quality, not quantity.
"We are going to see a much more serious side to [Jack and Jennifer] come March or April. Jack is playing a game, as always, but you can't get away with playing a game forever. He knows the house of cards will come down around his head. Then he will have to pick himself up, dust himself off, and start all over! He better keep his promise on that! (the serious part)
This comment by KC was important:
The adage is, as taught by my parents, for every fan letter you read, it represents 1000 opinions...If the viewers are saying we're not happy, and you continue to turn deaf ears, then you are going to end up somewhere besides on television!
So make sure you keep writing! Snail mail (written letters rather than email) are probably more effective, so you can send those letters to:

OR

Returning characters?
It's being reported that Ryan Scott (Harold) and Tim Thomerson (Oliver Wentworth) will make appearances on the show February 12th.
(*If this ends the gay story, then whatever.)

and an article concerning it is here.
Matt had this to say in the article about his daughter, who has had retinal cancer: "She's getting a chance to do things she never did. It's a big deal getting to do things other kids do."
~~~~~~~~~~
Ken Corday in TV Guide
"Tom [Langan] got away from the fact that our veterans like Deidre Hall and Drake Hogestyn [John and Marlena], Peter Reckell and Kristian Alfonso [Bo and Hope], and Matthew Ashford and Missy Brennan [Jack and Jennifer] (I don't know why he used her maiden name) are the box office of Days. The [teens] are wonderful, but they have to be part of bigger stories."
On the return of Patch and Kayla...
"I'd like to bring back Stephen Nichols and Mary Beth Evans, but they'd need to be front and center, and we don't have the airtime. It's not far from the realm of possibility that they'll be back in a year, if they're available. They'd be a ratings grabber, no doubt about it, but we're trying to rebuild the show. I'm not going to throw the baby out right now just to get them back."
Info from Jan. 29th SOU
MELISSA REEVES SPEAKS OUT! How will the changes at DAYS affect Jennifer's love life?
Melissa Reeves wasn't shocked when she learned of Tom Langan's dismissal. "It happens a lot on our show. I'm not worried. Every few years we get new writers. I wish Tom the best. Everything happens for a reason: one door closes, another opens."
Insiders say that Reeves will benefit from the writer switch the most. "Jack and Jennifer will move to the front burner," says a source.
That's fine with Reeves who is enjoying her on-screen romance with Matthew Ashford (Jack). "I love working with Matt again. Nothing has changed between us since the early days. We are having the best time. Matt's rejuvenated and we're both happy. We both grew up a lot, but the dynamics and chemistry hasn't changed at all over the years between us," explains Reeves.
One thing Reeves hopes does change is the merry-go-round of suitors Jennifer has been dating. "I think Jack and Jennifer are being immature and stubborn. They're basically dating other people to make each other jealous. There is nothing sincere about them. But I enjoy all the fun material we get to play. Jennifer feels the romance with Colin is over because he told her to get lost. As far as Brandon... well, it's fun for me as an actress to play," elaborates Reeves.
-------
"On the Jack and Jennifer front, there is no way that Jennifer can keep on disguising the love that she still feels for Jack. Is he really the right man for her? No matter what anyone else thinks, the chemistry between the two of them is undeniable. In the weeks ahead, we’ll see him go to extraordinary lengths to prove his love."
~ "Though the show will not confirm, or will any of the mags, 3 sources close to DAYS are confirming that Sarah Buxton (Ex-Annie SUN, Ex-Morgan B&B) is in talks for a 2 year contract to join DAYS OF OUR LIVES. Supposedly her character will be involved with the Jack and Jennifer storyline, and several skeptics have stated that she will become obsessed with Jack Deveraux, though sources cannot confirm exactly what her role will be in the story. Despite the uncertainty about what role SB is in talks for, they are said to be going well."
~ "Sources are confirming that fans of Jack and Jennifer will definetly see the Spectator return in 2002."
JULY 2001
Jack and Jennifer came in at #4 for
The Early Edition's list of Top 10 Salem Married Couples.
This was the summary written up for them:
"4. JACK & JENNIFER DEVERAUX
The talents of Matthew Ashford and Missy Reeves make this couple just shine. They have so much chemistry between them and it shows in every scene. And voters were very clear they were voting for these specific actors in the roles. Jack and Jen shared a sense of adventure and an appreciation for fun. These two have been able to pull off the light comedy that's so rarely seen in soaps. Missy Reeves (Jen) has a natural charm and down-to earth quality that perfectly balances the quirky, often eccentric personality of Matt Ashford's Jack. They are another truly human pair. They fight and drag things out, yet not in secretive monologues to the mirror --instead, to each other! They actually hash and rehash issues, past actions, and conflicts, and ironically enough, with all the mind warping satellites and rubies which appear to have been the only thing stolen in Salem in the past twenty years, their realistic bantering is a breath of fresh air. We know they are still in love, Jack knows it, and Jen half-admits it to Hope, but they nevertheless go at each other like stray cats. And they are made more human by their forgivable yet blaring personality flaws. They are funny, filled with angst, serious, creative, intelligent, and equal partners. They challenge, surprise and engage each other the way no one else can. It's as if their souls and spirits were superglued together the day they met. They connected on such a deep level. They have a great friendship and thoroughly enjoy each other. That is sexy. They don't have to constantly be kissing or having sex to steam up the tv. Their eyes and facial expressions speak volumes!"
Go here to see the list.
