For months, "Days of Our Lives'" Jack has been using Greta to make his ex-wife Jennifer jealous in an effort to win Jenn back. But next week, Greta will get a little too close, so Jack will come up with a unique way to put her off.

"He blurts out, 'I'm gay!'" says Matthew Ashford, who plays Jack Deveraux. "Greta is at her wit's end about why Jack isn't into her. Jack has always been one to grab at straws, but this is about the longest straw he's ever grabbed."

Greta's reaction?

"Suddenly all these things make sense to her," says Ashford. "She says, 'Now I know why you are the way you are! The way you hold your pinky up when you eat a doughnut, why your clothes are color-coordinated, the way you talk.' The fact is that there is no criteria for how someone is or is not gay. People are different. But Jack's male pride is like, 'How can you say that?'"

Despite Jack's "revelation," Greta agrees to pose as his girlfriend on a trip to Las Vegas for a job interview. But first, Greta wants to bond with Jenn over their affection for this man they can't have.

"Greta thinks this is something they can all share together," says Ashford, "but it's the last thing Jack wants."

While Jack tries to keep Greta quiet, Jenn starts softening toward her ex, thinking he has finally grown up.

"Jack and Jenn have a love that's different," says Ashford. "Marriage for them is like that horse they had at their wedding — it was nice, but they couldn't ride it."

As for the gay thing, "It will be a fun exploration of Jack's own inadequacies," he says. "It's not any kind of judgment."
