Jennifer loved Frankie
Emilio loved Jennifer
Jack and Jennifer loved each other
If there's one thing Jennifer Horton has never had any problem doing, it's attracting a good looking guy Since her return to Salem five years ago, she has been involved with five very handsome men. They were super-jock Glenn Gallagher, wholesome Frankie Brady, confused yet adorable Jack Deveraux, and evil Lawrence Alamain. Five men with few things in common, except the attention of this beautiful bright young lady.
Glenn was Jennifer's first boyfriend in Salem, and her least significant one. She dated him during high school, then broke up with him when she found herself attracted to Frankie, an orphan whom the Bradys had adopted. Frankie was a wonderful boyfriend, and a perfect gentleman.
As a matter of fact, it was he who decided that they should lose their virginity together, on their wedding night. It was a sweet idea, of course it never happened. Jennifer loved Frankie, but broke up with him, when she was terrified that she'd end up crazy like her mother (that's another story). When she and Frankie split, he had a one night stand (nothing sordid, mind you) with Paula Carson, a woman whom he worked with at the Teen Hotline. Eve Donovan, who had a crush on Frankie, made sure that Jennifer found out about the very brief affair. Needless to say, Jennifer was upset! He tried to explain to her that it didn't mean anything to him, but when he later refused to make love to Jennifer (for her own good), she felt inferior and hurt. Their relationship was never the same again. Frankie went off to college in New York, leaving her alone in Salem.
That's when she became interested in Emilio. Emilio was dangerous, exciting, and talented. They dated for a while. He was a perfect gentleman, too. He fell head over heels in love with her, and soon wanted to marry her. Unfortunately, during the time they were dating, Jennifer found herself becoming more and more attracted to Jack Deveraux, her boss at the newspaper, and less and less attracted to Emilio. She could tell that Jack was attracted to her too, but he refused to admit it. Jennifer gave Jack every opportunity to tell her how he felt, but he maintained that they were just employer and employee, and would never be anything more. She never actually gave up hope, but she did finally agree to marry Emilio. Emilio couldn't have been happier.
Jack, who believed that he knew what was best for everyone, thought that Jennifer was making a mistake. So, the day of her wedding, dressed like a fireman, Jack kidnapped her from the bridal room, and took her to a cabin in the woods. Jennifer thought that he would finally admit that he loved her, but he didn't. And it looked like he never would.
It took a disasterous cruise set up by Ernesto Toscano to make Jack come to his senses. On a deserted island, afraid that Jennifer was going to die, he finally said, "I love you." It was on that island that Jennifer lost her virginity. (It wasn't on her wedding night, and Frankie was nowhere in sight.) When they were rescued and returned to Salem, Jack decided to ignore his feelings, once again. Thinking he wasn't good enough for Jennifer, he decided they should go back to the way things were.
Meanwhile, Jennifer's childhood friend Carly Manning arrived in Salem, with problems that made Jennifer's seem insignificant. Carly/Katerina had to marry Lawrence Alamain on her twenty-fifth birthday, something she had no intention of doing. Jennifer took it upon herself to meet Lawrence and pretend she was Katerina, in an attempt to free Carly from her destiny. What she actually did, though, was get herself into lots of trouble! Lawrence was not a very nice man. Jack tried to rescue her more than once, but Lawrence was holding Frankie prisoner. It turned out that Frankie was Carly's brother. Lawrence threatened to kill Frankie if Jennifer didn't marry him. Out of love for Frankie, she said, "I do." Unfortunately, Lawrence, unlike the other guys in Jennifer's life, was no gentleman. He raped her soon after they were married. The question is: will she ever trust a man again?
